Who the heck is this mal human?

I'm a Boston based actor, performer, writer, healthcare clown, queer nonbinary human, activist, and volunteer providing enrichment to dogs at a local Boston shelter.

I started my performance career as a stand up comedian in the 90's, moved into improv and sketch comedy then theater.

I've been a professional healthcare clown for over twenty-five years at Boston Children's and Hasbro Children's Hospitals, with The Laughter League.

And as a former cancer patient, I write and speak about creating a more human centered, kinder, more inclusive healthcare system.

I write about navigating the world as a nonbinary and queer human. I use humor to push boundaries and create healing for myself and others. I write for a more inclusive welcoming world that celebrates our humanity in all its forms.

I write for kids, currently working on two middle grade contemporary novels. My first novel, Welcome To Chemoville, I am currently seeking representation for publication.

I also write for the stage: collaborating with other artists to develop theater pieces that push for social change.

The Pineapple Project is a performance piece for kids, written and performed by me and Becca A. Lewis. It's about supporting and celebrating kids being free to be their gender creative selves.

I'm Mal. My pronouns are Mal or They/Them. I'm a queer nonbinary human, who performs, writes, acts, speaks out, and uses humor and play in my work as a healthcare clown. Humor, presence, social justice and kindness are my tools to build connection and awareness. As an activist, I use my art to collaborate in shaping a better world that celebrates all beings.
