As an actor and performer, my happy place is new works. In the early 2000's, I was a co-founder of Queer Soup Theater. We developed original works that put more queer stories into the atmosphere. I've also had the fabulous privilege of working with several theater companies over the years, again with a focus on new works. Telling stories that have not been told before. For me, it's vital to share stories that give voice to those who have been silenced or vastly underrepresented. That's how we change this freaking world!!

Current/Ongoing projects:

The Pineapple Project: A show for kids ages 3-8 and their caregivers written and performed by Mal and Becca A. Lewis,  that celebrates the gender creativity in all of us. With the uptick in transphobia especially regarding trans kids, this play explores how imperative it is that we support, uplift, and celebrate kids being who they are. This show is engaging, funny, and heartwarming. â€‹

Solo Project in Progress (Unyet titled- taking suggestions!) This is the story of how Mal, a nonbinary queer human, wrestled with the heteronormative, cis-centered binary for-profit medical system and the heteronormative feminization of cancer, while navigating their own adventures with ovarian cancer. And using these experiences as a means to show how absurd and broken the healthcare system is to motivate audiences to act.

I'm Mal. My pronouns are Mal or They/Them. I'm a queer nonbinary human, who performs, writes, acts, speaks out, and uses humor and play in my work as a healthcare clown. Humor, presence, social justice and kindness are my tools to build connection and awareness. As an activist, I use my art to collaborate in shaping a better world that celebrates all beings.
